Them: Renting 1 bedroom suites in houses for more money per month than it would cost to fly to Mexico. Well, maybe not as long as the dreaded...... (echoey James Earl Jonesish delivery) swine flu is active. Got shared laundry? Oh boy, do they! Gee. A separate entrance even? What a luxury.
Me: Annoyed to the point that I can't stand it any more. Simple, short ad created and posted in Used Victoria's 'Houses for Rent' section displaying my annoyance in a public fashion (see 'What started this?').
Renters: Overwhelmingly respond to the ad by sending emails containing their experiences of being treated unfairly and agreeing that it is out of control. (Posts containing excerpts from these emails to come... Don't worry about being identified. I'm all about the privacy.)
A couple of 'them': A few brave lords o' the land felt also felt compelled to drop me a line:
"please do not be rallying the troops against us ..or we will more than likely quit and then where would all the people be?"You have got to be kidding. Where would all the people be? I have no words other than to let you know you smell of fear and probably Old Spice. Well, maybe fear, Old Spice and a bag of money.
Check back often, post your thoughts and feelings, argue with me or agree with me. Let me hear what you have to say.
They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.

Sure....sure - the Landlords are worried about "where would all the people be."
ReplyDeleteTheir concern is where would they (Landlords) be - IN FORECLOSURE hah hah hah!
Beware of this guy:

That's the guy that owns tons of buildings infested with bed bugs. Moving into a recently renovated suite will not keep the bugs away. Scums...
ReplyDeleteCheck this site before seeing a suite (or the bugs could hitch hike on your clothes and shoes and infest your place)

ReplyDeleteNo kidding. Maybe that needs to happen to force the rental prices down. Kind of like starting from scratch with the market.

Great story! Thanks for posting.

Uh... eew. Oh, and thanks for posting!
finding a house is in victoria for reasonable rent is hard. And so is getting cheaper rent. But ifyou work at it and are a good tenant, not just a run of the mill tenant you will get it, as my two previous tenants did get. And then I got screwed by a tenant for 17months. A brand new suite, moved her to it paid costs, 700 a month all inclusive. Yup kicked her out and you know what I will not give cheap rent for the risk anymore, now have a better tenant for 1100 a month, same risk is there, could also get 1300 for rent, but am giving a bit of a break if they earn it, if not, every year rent will go up. gave my previous tenant no increases for 9 years. All you whiners look in the mirror, you are the risk, for the product we are supplying, if your just jo blow, why should we give you a deal. Any another of your kind just blew it for you. But that is the advantage of being a renter isnt it, ahhhhh yes, the risk, start paying for it

ReplyDeleteGlad I don't rent from someone that treats their rental property like some kind of Freudian representation of a parent/child relationship. Good tenant? No increase for you. Run of the mill tenant (I guess someone that doesn't cut the grass twice a week)? Expect to pay your annual increase. Seems to me, the risk here would be getting an intrusive, nosy, over-involved landlord to pay my hard earned $ to or not.
To the passive/aggressive Anonymous camel shit landlord who rented to the 'run of the mill' tenant for ONLY $700 a month: Let's look at what you stated - that $700 a month covered your costs. And yet you feel justified in making a $400 a month profit, but ideally you want to make $600 a month profit? How nice for you (that's sarcasm, you south end of a north bound camel). First you complain about the 'run of the mill' tenant that YOU chose to rent to...what happened? Someone pulled up to your suite in the middle of the night with a moving truck full of their possessions and held a gun to your head forcing you to sign the rental agreement? And then they screwed you for 17 months? Forced you to let them live there for free for a year and a half because they refused to pay the rent, eh??? Yeh right. You alone are responsible for who you rented your suite to. Just because your poor judgment landed you a looser renter gives you no right to justify wanting to almost double the rent. It's people who think like you that have the renters of Victoria up in arms and demanding greedy rental property owners like you to come back down to earth and charge a fair rent. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits.
